Updated: Oct 29, 2020
The Ethical Farming Fund, a volunteer-led organization, is seeking a volunteer Executive Director (ED) to succeed our founding President/CEO. The ED will oversee all facets of the EFF (including operations, development, outreach and finances) and will report to the organization’s board of directors. The ED will receive mentorship or guidance from the co-founder.
This position is currently unpaid and thus flexible in time commitment. We expect that regular duties will comprise 3-6 hours per week on a flexible schedule. With grant-writing support from the board, this role has the potential to grow to a paid position. The role is remote within Western Pennsylvania, but when it becomes safe to do so, occasional travel throughout Western PA (to farms and events) may be necessary.
When working on a volunteer basis, the most important regular duties include:
Managing online communication (website, blog, newsletter) and social media to promote local farms and sustainable agriculture
Growing our catalog of virtual farm tours through documented farm visits
Overseeing operating budget
Soliciting individual donations via online communications
Maintaining our database of local farms that meet our animal welfare standards
Estimated weekly time commitment: 3-6 hours
Big picture duties (with support from the board) include:
Overseeing and developing programs that align with our mission and core values
Building and maintaining relationships with organizational partners and food businesses
Ensuring compliance with federal and state laws for 501(c)(3) organizations
Seeking and developing new funding sources (e.g., grant writing) and revenue streams
Planning annual online fundraising campaigns (e.g., Giving Tuesday)
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in the nonprofit sector, food systems, or related field
Basic understanding of marketing and organizational finances
Passion for food, animals, and sustainability
Resident of Western Pennsylvania
